Hey everyone. I'm kind of in a dilemma right now. There's this group at our school (and in California) that is similar to NHS (based off academic performance and community service for membership) and I put on my college apps that I would receive recognition for being a member of it for at least 4 semesters. The advisor who runs the program at my high school sent out an email saying that we are required to attend this banquet they are hosting in order to claim our recognition and cord for graduation and that there is no other way to get it. However, the banquet conflicts with my schedule, as I will be at Bulldog Days during the day that the banquet is being held.
I will go in and talk to the advisor, but I don't think she will budge. What do I do? This won't affect my college applications will it? I don't want colleges to get the idea that I lied to them on the app, but I am definitely eligible (I've actually been a member for 7 semesters). To me, it seems unreasonable that attendance of the event is mandatory to getting the recognition. I've paid money for the membership, and have donated many items/done service for the purpose of getting this honor.
