Hello parents,
3 years ago, my mom made a really hard decision for me. Instead of allowing me to go to MIT, she decided that I would go to Michigan State University on a full ride. At the time, I was angry at my family for not making enough money and I was angry at my mother for making me get a 2400 SAT...what, so I could attend Michigan State University?
I know there is a lot of pressure both from the child's end and the parent's end to send your child to a big name school where both of you can feel proud. Getting into a top tier school can feel like a pinnacle achievement. Just don't forget to keep an open mind that your child will do amazing things no matter what school they go to. My Asian mother certainly put a lot of pressure on me to get into a top tier school before pulling the plug on that. I hope that unlike me, you will be more open minded and consider all your options when making your college decision.
