I am so upset and disappointed! All my S wanted to do is to take multi-variable calc and/or linear algebra concurrently after finishing his Calc BC at school.
First, his summer plans fall through because the nearest CC would absolutely not register without AP test results and the standard mid-July is a whole week too late for them (apparently the concept of "provisional acceptance" has never crossed their minds). Not only that - they do not accept the "C" part of that course and make kids repeat the whole course for the whole one chapter which is *partially* not covered in Calc BC. Not unit, but part of a chapter!
Now, we have two options for the Fall: one CC would gladly let him take his CalcD or Lin. Algebra but their registration is a week before school starts and the school and the school district people flatly refuse to sign any papers before the 1st day of school. The classes in CC fill out fast and the chances of getting in are very low.
The other option is our "favourite" CC next door. Their timing is fine, however it seems like a waste of time to retake a whole course for the sake of a part of a chapter.
The whole situation sounds very discouraging - the bureaucracy at its worst! Considering the weight colleges put on the summer work and senior schedule, it almost seems that these people dream of pulling kids down. I know they don't - it's just general official stupidity but still... Did anyone see anything similar?
Thank you for letting me vent.
