I keep reading how competitive (top 30) colleges want committed students and it is better to be deeply involved in a couple of activities. D legitimately has at least 8 ECs that she spends time on during an average week. None are super intellectual like Mathletes but they are important to her.
1. Elected Student Government, different positions (4 years)
2. Debate Team (competed all 4 years, regional)
3. Community service with a unique 501C organization outside of school (2 years, all year)
4. SADD club president
5. Community Service Club (3 years)
6. Youth Group Board (2 years)
7 and 8 Captain of two varsity sports, not a recurit, regional champions in one of them last year, went to state finals (on teams all 4 years)
She is literally at school until 7pm year round, mostly because she loves it.
She also started a music club senior year not because of her resume but because it was something that was interested in. She dabbles in 3 different instruments. She is very dynamic which will come across in interviews but may not on paper.
She also has some summer activities she can talk about.
As for a major, she is pretty much undecided, liberal arts.
Is this too many activities to list? She really has worked hard at all these activities.
